Koh Rong Island

The last few days have been a peaceful and relaxing pause in our Cambodian itinerary. Matthew and Melissa recommended we take some time to relax and unwind and they couldn’t have been more right. The resort they recommended, The Secret Garden, has been the perfect place to unwind. This island and this resort seem to be a hidden gem. The beach isn’t crowded and there are plenty of lounge chairs and umbrellas for everyone. We have enjoyed sitting on the beach, paddle boarding , kayaking and finding a temple along a little river. We also took a boat tour that included snorkeling and fishing – it would’ve also included watching the sunset and swimming with bioluminescent plankton but I got a little too seasick to continue to excursion. The 8 hour boat ride was too much for me but fortunately Rob was able to join another group to see the plankton so it wasn’t a total loss!

The resort has a resident dog, Coconut. We learned that he has an owner in the village near the resort, but Coconut chooses to stay on the beach and hang around all day. He gets fed scraps from the plates at the restaurant and he seems to chase off other dogs from the area. He is pretty sweet and it’s fun when you are the chosen one for him to take a nap beside.

This has been a fun and magical few days and I’m so grateful to be able to be here and see this amazing place. If you’re ever in Cambodia I highly recommend checking out Koh Rong Island!
